CSUB ATHLETES IN NEED OF MEALS

On Wed Dec 2,  Tina Burke and Susan Begin will be hosting a meal (at the Burke's home) for the CSUB Women's water polo and swim teams (approx 40 people).  They would like to know if anyone would like to help out by  bringing either a Salad, cookies, or waters.

If you are intersted in bringing any of the above items, please contact Tina Burke on her cell 703-0820.

What is this for? Why are we doing this?

Academically, CSUB is on the quarter system which means they are done with school on Nov 18th and don't return to classes until Jan 6th.  As Division I athletes, the CSUB Women's water and men's and women's swim teams stay in Bakersfield over the winter break and train for their respective sports.  Because school is not in session, the students do not have access to the dining halls (and with our current budget restrictions) are left to pay for their own meals during this critical time of training.

In the past, we have been fortunate to have members of the community step up and provide meals (usually dinners) for 1 or all of our aquatics teams during this break.  In the past, these dinners have been done several different ways.  1) the atheletes have been invited over to the "cooks" house for dinner.  2) the food has been cooked at home and the brought over to CSUB 3) Donors have purchased or have had food catered at their house or at CSUB 4) a restaurant has donated a meal either at their restaurant or for take out.

Although all 3 of our teams are in need of meals, if you only have the means to provide for 1 of the teams (ex: water polo only) that would still be great.  The dates we are looking at are Nov 30th-Dec 10th.

Thanks for your help.

The CSUB Student Athletes will appreciate it.

CSUB HOSTING WESTERN WATER POLO ASSOCIATION WOMEN'S CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

On April 30-May 2, 2010  (Fri-Sun) CSUB will be hosting the WWPA championships, a 10 team college tourney, in which the winner receives an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.

CSUB will also be hosting 2 invitational tournaments in addition to the above championships.

Feb 12-14, 2010 and March 27-28, 2010.

I will need to form a group of 6-8 parents/adults that will be able to run the scorers table for all 3 of these tournament.  Only 3 people are needed at the scorers table at any one time, but with 8-10 games per day, we need to have a couple different shifts.

The basic jobs at the scorers table are:

1) Game clock and shot clock (this can usually be ran by one person)

2) Score keeper or recorder of goals, exclusions, time outs etc.  (you really don't have to understand the game very well to do this job)

3) Spotter and holder of the reentry flag. (this job is verbalizing what is happening for the score keeper.  ex: what cap number scored, the time the goal wa scored at, what cap number  was excluded, and subtracting 20 seconds to wave in  an ejected player.  Also holding up a colored flag to signify reentry of an excluded player after 20 seconds).  This job takes a little more of an understanding of  the game but not as much as the clock operator.

I am really looking for a good crew to help with the WWPA tournament at the end of April and working one of the 2 previous tourneys in feb or March as well as this Sat will be great training.

Thanks as  always for your help.

Jason
